Public & Media Advisory: Surface Transportation Board's Electronic Information Dissemination & Reception Capabilities Temporarily Compromised

The Surface Transportation Board announced this morning that, apparently as a result of a "hacking" incident, the Board's computer system has been temporarily impaired. Since yesterday, Monday, April 30, 2001, the Board has been unable to perform the daily electronic posting of decisions to its Website, send electronic mail externally, or receive e-mail generated externally. The Board is making every effort to rectify these problems as expeditiously as possible. At the present time, it appears that the agency's computer system will remain inoperative throughout today, Tuesday, May 1.
