The Surface Transportation Board is pleased to announce that it has made significant progress in its information security program and practices.  The Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General (DOT OIG) recently issued its audit report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 and recognized the STB’s significant efforts to mature its security program since DOT OIG’s first audit of the STB as a fully independent agency in FY 2017.  No new audit recommendations were issued for FY 2019.

The Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014 (FISMA) requires all federal agencies to implement information security programs.  FISMA also requires all agencies to have annual independent evaluations performed to determine the effectiveness of such programs.

The significant progress made in the FISMA assessment reflects the STB’s strong commitment to implementing a cost-effective, risk-based security program that is aligned with the National Institute of Standards and Technology security standards and guidelines.  The STB continues working to achieve a fully effective information security program and is committed to fully addressing the remaining recommendations.

The full DOT OIG FISMA report is available to view here.
