STB Issues Draft Environmental Assessment for Proposed New Rail Line in Mesa, Arizona

The Surface Transportation Board’s Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA) today issued a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed construction of a new rail line in Mesa, Arizona by Union Pacific Railroad Company (UP).  The Draft EA analyzes the potential environmental and historic impacts of approximately 6 miles of new rail line to connect UP’s Phoenix Subdivision main line to industrial properties southeast of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.

OEA invites stakeholders and interested parties to review and submit comments on all aspects of the Draft EA.  Comments are due by June 30, 2023.
