Surface Transportation Board Chairman Martin J. Oberman today announced that, with the approval of the Board, he has appointed Dr. Kristen Monaco to serve as Director of the Office of Economics. In her role as Director, Dr. Monaco oversees several analytical functions, including data gathering and reporting, and economic and policy analysis in connection with Board decisions.
“The Board gains an experienced and capable economist and leader with the addition of Dr. Monaco as Director of the Office of Economics,” said Chairman Oberman. “Her impressive background and ability will benefit the public by providing the Board with solid economic analysis of complex issues. Because the Board’s work is often so heavily reliant on economic analysis, I am delighted that we will have the benefit of Dr. Monaco’s experience, leadership, and expertise going forward.”
Dr. Monaco joins the Board from the Federal Maritime Commission, where she was Chief Economist and Director of Trade Analysis. Prior to FMC, she was at the Bureau of Labor Statistics as an Economist and Associate Commissioner. Dr. Monaco was also a professor of economics at California State University, Long Beach. She holds a Ph.D. in economics and has experience in several aspects of transportation economics.
